Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. She is a physician scientist with significant experience in precision medicine and precision prevention in addiction treatment including smoking cessation. Her goal is to improve clinical care by allowing physicians and patients to use most effective treatments with least side effects, and better predict health risks. She is leading the first NIDA-funded genetically informed randomized controlled smoking cessation treatment trial. She has been an active member in the NIDA Genetics Consortium, a group of leading scientists spearheading this nation’s efforts to understand genetic causes of substance dependence. She is the co-chair for the Genetics Network of Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. Her additional expertise is implementation of evidence-based treatment for addiction. She is leading a NCI-funded project to implement smoking cessation treatment in healthcare settings with use of technology including electronic health record strategies.
